New Community

Hey everyone, Now im apart of the JMU football community. I'm thinking about writing my narrative on how I made the transition from UVA to JMU footall community and how they are similar and different from one another. Some of the similarities might be how football players act in general, but the differences is how the football players act individually to become a team, how the team acts together as one. Maye some players value some things higher or lower than others. For example, the football players here always say, "It hurts." That is something new for me and now I'm saying it all the time.

  1. Quintin,

This is a great topic! Focusing on the differences between the JMU football team and UVA football team will help you outline what characteristics and community standards are unique to the JMU football community.

Since you have been playing football for a long time, it sounds like you have plenty of personal experience to draw upon. Have you thought about what personal story to describe for your narrative? You could certainly talk about your early impressions of the JMU team. As you're thinking about what details to include, making a list of particular phrases and mannerisms ("It hurts") could be helpful.

I'm looking forward to reading your first draft!

  2. Hi Quintin,

First of all, Congratulations on a fantastic win against VT this weekend!!! I'm in the Marching Band and had the time of my life cheering you guys on!

I think you have a lot of potential with where this paper can go. Now that we're done with our rough drafts you probably don't have much left to right about. I think you could incorporate details to give an image to your audience. Your personal experience part of your essay is probably great since you've been playing for a long time.

Good luck and I think your positive outlook on football will really help others understand how much it means to you.
