Samantha's Community Blog

Hey guys,

I think i am going to write my community narrative on the Friends Against Drunk Driving (FADD) community. I recently became very involved in this community when I lost my best friend to drunk driving just a month ago. People do not understand the risk they take when they get behind the wheel after consuming any amount of alcohol. This community is an awesome community that helps to rasie awareness about drunk driving and hopefully prevents more people from drunk driving and possibly saving a life that couldn't be saved before.

  1. Samantha, this sounds like a great topic. I'm very sad to hear that you lost your best friend to drunk driving. Unfortunately, I imagine this is a characteristic that unites many FADD members.

FADD is a well-defined community, so you will easily be able to identify what values unify the community as well as what community standards are in place. For your personal account, you do not have to write about your friend, although I think this would be very effective. You are probably ready to begin researching and writing your first draft. Feel free to use the blog to ask for particular feedback from your classmates as you do.

  2. This sounds like it's going to be a really good topic because you can apply your first hand experiences with facts about FADD and statistics on drunk driving. There's a bunch on info. out there on programs like this so I don't think you'll have trouble finding that. I think that readers will enjoy reading your final piece and get a sense of understanding after hearing your story, which I'm sorry to hear about. Good luck writing this!

  3. I can relate to this topic because in the past three years four kids from my hometown have been killed in drunk driving accidents, yet many people in the community continue to drink and drive. I knew about groups like MADD and SADD but FADD is new to me. I think it would've been very beneficial if my high school had a community like this.

  4. This is a really great topic that you have chosen - it's very inspiring! Because you have personally lost a friend due to drunk driving, your narrative will be very compassionate and moving. You are definitely not alone though. Tons of teenagers just like you have lost friends due to drunk driving. You could probably research their stories to add support for your narrative. A tipping point in this case could be when a close friend or classmate is lost due to drunk driving. It can take this one person dying for a community to take charge and exercise caution before jumping behind the wheel.
