I found this reading to be a good read but i can't say i agree with Giroux though. No child is going to notice as quoted in the reading "the hyenas sounds like poor blacks and hispanics." Also i didn't not notice the "overt racism towards Arabs" in the movie Aladdin. I know when i was watching these movies i didn't notice any of that. Myself along with every other child who watched these Disney movies were watching them purely for entertainment. Giroux's only shows negative aspects of Disney movies and caused me to question his credibility.

  1. I completely agree with you, whenever I watched these movies when I was young I never noticed any racism towards Arabs or that "the hyenas sounds like poor blacks and hispanics". Giroux only shos th enegative aspects of Disney movies because that is the point he is trying to prove.

  2. I agree with you and I feel the same way about not noticing any of this as a younger child. I think this author is going over the top with ideas that the hyenas sound like poor blacks and hispanics. There is still a possiblity that these ideas of racism and sexism can be true in Disney but its hard to prove that it was on purpose. I also see why you question his credibility since he is showing only the negative aspects of Disney and not all of the positives.

  3. I understand how you feel about this reading, and that our younger generation will not pick up the stereotypes in all of the movies, but I don't understand that you said you would question his credibility though. For the points he's trying to make, do you think he gives enough information about his argument no matter if you agree of disagree with Giroux?
